At Camden Pet Hospital, each pet's first year of care is customized based on their specific needs. Like children, puppies and kittens require multiple exams and vaccine boosters to ensure they get the very best start in life.
Our recommendations for your pet's first year include:
- Physical Exams: A lifetime of wellness starts with your pet’s first comprehensive physical exam. Puppies and kittens should have 3 - 4 exams within their first 8 - 16 weeks of life. These visits give our veterinarians the opportunity to assess your pet's overall health and administer necessary vaccines.
- Vaccines: Puppies and kittens must receive a series of properly staged vaccines. We adhere to suggested guidelines and, because each animal is unique, we tailor our vaccine recommendations according to their lifestyle and/or breed.
- Diagnostic Testing: If not tested previously, we recommend puppies be tested for heartworm at the 6-month mark and that kittens be tested for feline leukemia (FeLV) and feline immunodeficiency virus (FIV) at their first appointment.
Additionally, your veterinarian will answer any questions you may have and discuss other services that could benefit your pet’s overall health and wellbeing, such as spaying and neutering and microchipping.
